A 'New Farm' for LIFE's CSA

Imagine a farm with…

  • A fully organic orchard and fruit production area.
  • Restored tall-grass prairie and beneficial insect habitat.
  • A large pond used for irrigation, and also stocked with appropriate game fish.
  • Rotational fields for vegetable and pasture raised animals.
  • Open green space for your gatherings - fly a kite with no power lines, run the dogs, fly model airplanes, play crochet, build an igloo - whatever you like.
  • Picnic facilities – Tables, grills, fire pits.
  • A multi-use pavilion, with restroom facilities for events with your friends and family.
  • Transferrable ownership of an Indiana Farm.
  • All this open to member/owners of the farm every day of the year.  Schedule a visit whenever you please.
  • And of course, an abundance of the best in local, organic produce.

At LIFE Farm we are coordinating the cooperative purchase of land for and by the CSA members.  The farm will be managed by the LIFE crew with an overall vision of land restoration, bio-diversity, high quality foods and opportunities for fun, education and relaxation.

Why become an Owner?

You’ll receive more bountiful shares for the same yearly CSA costs.  Currently LIFE farm rents most of its ten tillable acres.  When the CSA owns 40 acres of land three major benefits occur for all of us.  First, we can quit selling to wholesalers and through farmers’ markets to offset the costs of land mortgages and rent.  Second, we can securely invest in the most efficient infrastructure, such as wells, ponds, buildings, and soil fertility for the long term.  Third, more ground is available for production.  The result is more food - all for the member/owners.

The core LIFE Team collectively brings over 50 years of knowledge and experience.   You’ll help us to develop a model small farm.  Using the most sustainable practices, we’ll design for a variety of nutritious foods, strong soils and beneficial habitats for all living things.

You’ll feed your body by eating delicious healthful foods, by enjoying recreational time at the farm relaxing, hiking, or playing with friends and family. You’ll feed your mind knowing your farm increases environmental quality and thrives with care from enthusiastic, well compensated workers.

You’ll substantially increase your food security.  With more ground owned by the members, we can increase the diversity of crops, including orchards and berry patches for more fruit. We’ll incorporate farm animals into the field rotation for a closed loop soil fertility program, resulting in egg and meat options for members. We’ll also be able to increase production in the greenhouses for winter shares.

Your participation is vital.  This model is designed for a community of 500 member/owners.  Together our small contributions will make a significant difference.
